The woman conducting the MRI on me today said I could ask most of those questions to the radiologist. I made some dumb joke about him saying he'd never seen a brain so big and she told me they were normally the size of the skull. They just fit right in the skull - with a small amount of spinal fluid acting as padding. Then she said "well, sometimes, in..." she lowered her voice, "elderly people", normal volume, "they can be..." and she made her hands represent something the size of a grapefruit "...smaller". They atrophy and shrink. Shrink right up inside their skulls.
